Mozart Serenade No. 10 K. 361 in Bb
(Gran Partita)
Wind is the theme for our first concert of the Festival. We proudly present the Bay-Atlantic Symphony in two of the great masterpieces for wind ensemble. Dvorak’s is folksy and full of the dance rhythms, modal harmonies, and sweeping melodies of his native Bohemia. In Mozart’s “Gran Partita” we find some of the most sublime writing—intricate, yet somehow pure, haunting yet somehow fresh. It’s a rare opportunity to hear this incredible music.

Chic perhaps, but nothing “cutesy” in this music of great power, intimacy, and charm. Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll is some of his most tender. It was performed as a surprise gift to his wife Cosima celebrating the birth of their son, Siegfried. Haydn wrote 104 symphonies, each a gem. The “Trauer” is his most famous from his middle period, and is rife with passion, and surprising drive. We are delighted to introduce Cape May audiences to Christina Castelli to play Mozart’s gracious and spunky “Turkish” Concerto. Ms. Castelli has won rave reviews for previous performances with BAS.

III. Spring String Fling—Thursday June 11th, 8pm
Gershwin Lullaby for Strings
New Jersey violinist Sharon Roffman brings fire and subtlety to her performances.
What a perfect match for the rich variety, colors, and beautiful evocations of Vivaldi’s most celebrated work, The Four Seasons. We feature the sonorous
strings of the Bay-Atlantic Symphony in a program that will be surprisingly familiar and greatly contrasting. From the jaunty rhythms of Holst’s St. Paul
Suite, to the extraordinarily lush Romanticism of Tchaikovsky, a musical love affair’s in store!
