"SYMBOLS AND CRASHES" - September 2006
Concerto No. 1 (Khatchaturian)………………….Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky
David Jalbert, Piano
- Intermission -
Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun………Claude Debussy
Pelléas and Melisande Suite……………………………Gabriel Fauré

In our first program we feature one of the most dramatic piano concertos, and celebrated, Tchaikovsky’s first, with Canadian superstar David Jalbert. Described by Fanfare Magazine: "Jalbert's piano playing is remarkable for its sweep, confidence, sensitivity, power and color, what more can we ask?” Jalbert brings great passion to this work. We open with the “symbols” in our concert, the beautifully etched lines of French composers Debussy and Faure, tracing with utter sensuality the mythologies of France and Ancient Greece. For contrast, power, and elegance, this is not to be missed.

"DEPTH AND LIGHT" - November 2006
Concerto No. 3………………………………..…Camille Saint-Saens
Ruotao Mao, Violin
- Intermission -
Symphony No. 4 in E minor…………………..Johannes Brahms

When Ruotao Mao first took the stage in September of 05, something special was added to the stage of the Bay-Atlantic Symphony. We are delighted to present this first class New Jersey artist not only as our concert master, but also our soloist in Saint-Saens virtuosic and intoxicating Concerto No. 3. To complete the Bay-Atlantic Symphony’s Brahms Cycle we will play his final Symphonic statement, the powerful and deep, Symphony No. 4. This work, perfect in form and plumbs the depths of human emotion and leaves anyone who has come in contact with it transformed. It is beyond a great work of music but a touchstone of humanist culture.

"CLASSIC CONTOURS" - March 2007
Concerto Op. 14.…..…………………………………Samuel Barber
Amy Beth Horman, Violin
Chamber Symphony…….………………………………John Adams
- Intermission -
Symphony No. 38, K. 504....Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in D major
"The Prague" Symphony

Described by The Washington Post as "having the stuff of greatness," violinist Amy Beth Horman brings fervor, intensity, and great beauty to her playing. She is featured in an American classic, Samuel Barber’s gorgeous Violin Concerto. Rounding out our American first half is modern classic John Adams’ Chamber Symphony. With his crystalline energetic style, Adams ushered in a kind of classicism with minimalist roots. We close with one of Mozart’s most dynamic and exquisite symphonies, No. 38, (the Prague). For Mozart Prague was a city dear to his heart, where he was instantly and forever popular and celebrated. This radiant work reflects this mood.

"EXOTICS" - May 2007
Nights in the Gardens of Spain……………..……….Manuel da Falla
Adam Neiman, Piano
-Intermission-
Romanian Rhapsody No. 2……………………...…..Georges Enescu

Adam Neiman wowed our Cape May audiences with stunningly committed performance of Beethoven’s 1st Piano Concerto. It was a foregone conclusion to bring him back, all the way from Philadelphia. He has performed with the great orchestras of this country (Chicago, San Francisco) and in the best of venues. For Bay-Atlantic Symphony audiences, you will hear the orchestra and Mr. Neiman explore the deliciously accented Iberian rhythms in Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain. The Symphony will take you on a pastoral exploration of the resplendent sounds of the Transylvanian forests, where Music Director Jed Gaylin is no stranger, in Enescu’s colorful Romanian Rhapsody No. 2. We close this enticing program and season with Rimsky-Korsakov’s enthralling Arabian fairy tale symphony of Antar. Latin, gypsy, middle-eastern stories, colors, sounds, and perfumes will fill the air!
