FREE TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE TO TEACHERS, MUSIC EDUCATORS
FOR BAY-ATLANTIC SYMPHONY’S 2008 EDUCATION CONCERTS

Teachers and music educators should plan now and reserve free tickets for the 2008 education concerts, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony.

The 2008 Gus Cilento, MD Education Concerts, will take place on Friday, May 2, 2008, at 9:45 and 11:15 a.m., at the Frank Guaracini, Jr. Performing Arts Center, Cumberland County College, Sherman Avenue and College Drive, Vineland; and on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m., at the Richard Stockton College Performing Arts Center, Jimmie Leeds Road, Galloway Township.

These 45-minute concerts, entitled “How Music Talks: Sounds of the People,” will show how music is more than beautiful, uplifting sounds, but an expressive international language of emotion, sense, imagery, and color.

To illustrate this, the Bay-Atlantic Symphony and Music Director Jed Gaylin will present selections from Ludwig van Beethoven’s stirring Symphony No. 6, Pastoral” and selections performed by virtuoso Erhu (Chinese Folk Violin) soloist Jiebing Chen.

In Beethoven’s immortal Pastoral Symphony—his “Ode to Nature”—one can hear 19th century folk music, a fierce thunderstorm, as well as the beauty, peace, and sense of thanksgiving that follows.

The unusual, haunting, mystical sounds of the Erhu will be heard in Lee Pui Ming’s Awakenings.  This work is a picturesque 21st century depiction of a world opening up.

The two works span two eras and cultures between which lies a universe.  Taken together, they share wonder, beauty of sound, and a closeness to the countryside, its people and drama. Tickets are free because of the generous donations from Richard Stockton College, Cumberland County College, the Frank & Lydia Bergen Foundation, and others. A limited number of bus vouchers are available on a first come, first served basis.
