FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LEARN THE MANY INFLUENCES OF NATURE ON MUSIC
AT FEBRUARY LECTURE SERIES
SPONSORED BY BAY-ATLANTIC SYMPHONY
“Nature’s Influence on Western Music” will be the topic
of the January installment of the free monthly music
lectures by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the
Bay-Atlantic Symphony.
The affect
physics has as the basis for Western music will be
explored, including how physics affects the production
of pitches. Also discussed will be how Western composers
have reciprocated by depicting nature—the sea, storms,
dawn or sunset, the flowing of a river, and a
waterfall--in the music they compose.
The
lectures will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, February 6, at the Atlantic County Library,
306 E. Jimmie Leeds Road., Galloway Township (date
change for February only); on Tuesday, February 19, at
the Millville Public Library, 210 Buck St., Millville;
and on Tuesday, February 26, at the Avalon Free Public
Library, 235 32nd St., Avalon.
Subsequent
lectures will deal with such topics as holidays in
music, a question-and-answer session, and a “Fresh Ears”
experience.
Somers, is
a composer, performer, founder of the Classical New
Jersey Society and Maurice River Music, and was a
reviewer for the Star-Ledger.
The
lectures are co-sponsored by the libraries in which they
given.
