LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY OF MUSICAL VIENNA AT JULY 15 LECTURE IN MARGATE SPONSORED BY BAY-ATLANTIC SYMPHONY

BRIDGETON, NJ— Learn about Vienna, that historic and magical city of great composers, at the next installment of the summer series of free music lectures by Paul M. Somers, sponsored by the Bay-Atlantic Symphony, on Thursday, July 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Margate Public Library, 8100 Atlantic Ave., Margate, NJ. Entitled “Wien, Wien, nur Du allein” (“Vienna, Vienna, only you alone”), the lecture will deal with the musical rise and decline of this Austrian center of culture.

Future lectures, all on Thursday nights at 6:30 p.m., and co-sponsored by the library, will explore how the Beatles probed for a synthesis in the split between pop and classical music on August 12, and focus on the development of Beethoven’s compositional style on August 19. This series is in addition to the monthly music lectures series, sponsored by the Symphony and given by Somers, which runs from September through May at the Glassboro Public Library, Margate Public Library, Millville Public Library, and the Cape May County Library.

Somers, is a composer, performer, founder of Maurice River Music, was for 25 years the harpsichordist for the Virtuoso Strings of New York, and was a reviewer for the Star-Ledger.
